About IdeateCOMM

The IdeateCOMM Challenge is a social hackathon by Ngee Ann Polytechnic's Engineering Interest Group (EIG) in collaboration with the Toh Payoh East and Marymount Youth Networks. It aims to bring together youths from various Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) to develop innovative solutions addressing pressing societal issues.

This year, we've partnered with Ageless Bicyclists, a non-profit social enterprise dedicated to empowering individuals with diverse abilities including those recovering from stroke, spinal injuries, or special needs through inclusive cycling programmes. Through IdeateCOMM 2025, we aim to foster innovation and create practical, exercise-based solutions that support the rehabilitation of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and stroke.

Requirements

What to Build

You'll need to design and create a working prototype before Judging Day (4 Oct). The choice of what to use is up to you; it can be hardware, software, or a mix of both! Your solution should solve one of the following problem statements:

1. How might we create an onboarding platform that effectively trains volunteers at ABL while building long-term commitment across the different roles?

2. How might we redesign or retrofit adaptive bicycles to create sustainable jobs for persons with disabilities while improving comfort, safety, and efficiency?

3. How might we enhance ABL’s event operations by integrating logistics, volunteer coordination and bicycle tracking within designated areas?

What to Submit

You'll need to submit a summary of your solution on Devpost before 4 October, 10:00 AM. Some ideas on what to include are:

  • Your project and how it addresses the problem statement you chose
  • Any inspiration or research you conducted during the ideation phase
  • How your solution is unique and special
  • How the product is meant to be used
  • Technologies used
  • How sustainable the solution is when scaled beyond Ageless Bicyclists, or as a business
  • Your team's experience developing your project

You are also recommended to attach any photos, videos, Github Repos (open-source them) if applicable. Links to any demos you may have will also be appreciated!

Showtime!!

On Judging Day, your team will be provided with a table and TV to set up your booth, and judges will come to your booth throughout the judging period. Each team gets a total of 7 mins to pitch and 3 mins for QnA.

The presentation format is completely up to you. Get creative and impress the judges!
